Energy Cost Checker is a calculator, not an account system. This page explains what happens to your data when you use it.

What we collect

Energy Cost Checker does not require sign-up and does not maintain user accounts. The inputs you type into a calculator — wattage, hours of use, a rate — are sent to the ECC API only to compute a result and aren't linked to your identity. Standard web server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested path) may be retained briefly for reliability and abuse prevention.

Optional device location

On initial site load, Energy Cost Checker requests browser location permission once, except when opening a shared scenario so its saved rate stays intact. Your browser remembers whether you allow or deny access. You can also retry with “Use my location.” Energy Cost Checker matches the returned coordinates to a state inside your browser and does not send those coordinates to its API or a geocoding service, store them, or include them in shared scenarios. Your browser or operating system may use its own location provider. Only the detected state is used to request an approximate residential average. You can decline, cancel, or enter a state, ZIP code or rate yourself. A location is not proof of your electricity provider or tariff.

Shared scenarios

If you generate a share link from a calculator, the scenario is stored anonymously under an unguessable identifier and expires automatically. Anyone with the link can view the scenario; Energy Cost Checker does not attach it to you.

Advertising

Energy Cost Checker may display third-party advertising to help keep the calculators free to use. When enabled, ad providers may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads, which can include personalization based on your browsing activity. You can review or opt out of interest-based advertising through your browser's cookie settings or industry tools such as optout.aboutads.info.

Cookies

Energy Cost Checker itself does not use cookies to track you across sites. Any cookies present on this site are set by the advertising providers described above.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change with it.
